Arthrospira platensis as a Feasible Feedstock for Bioethanol Production

چکیده

In recent decades and to deal with the scarcity of fossil fuels, many studies have been developed in order set up a sustainable biofuel production sector. This new sector must be efficient (high productivity), economically profitable (low costs therefore acceptable fuel prices), ethical carbon balance, no competition food resources). The bioethanol is based on fermentation reserve sugars, accumulated form starch microalgae glycogen cyanobacteria. advantage this bioenergy route lies fact that post-crop process at industrial stage since it has already tested for years from agricultural resources. One most cultivated cyanobacteria Arthrospira (“Spirulina”) its also scale. Depending cultivation conditions, able accumulate 65% DW (dry weight) glycogen, making feasible feedstock production. aim review provide clear overview these operating conditions accumulation.

Bioethanol Production by Carbohydrate-Enriched Biomass of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis

In the present study the potential of bioethanol production using carbohydrate-enriched biomass of the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis was studied. For the saccharification of the carbohydrate-enriched biomass, four acids (H2SO4, HNO3, HCl and H3PO4) were investigated. Each acid were used at four concentrations, 2.5 N, 1 N, 0.5 N and 0.25 N, and for each acid concentration the saccharifica...

Waste Paper - Promissing Feedstock for Bioethanol Production

Modern approach to utilization of non-edible biomass is its conversion to glucose, and the following fermentation of the sugar into final bioproducts. Among various biomass types, the waste of office paper is distinguished by increased content of cellulose and negligible content of lignin; therefore it can be a suitable feedstock for bioconversion into valuable bioproduct, e.g. ethanol. An adva...

Role of pH on antioxidants production by Spirulina (Arthrospira) platensis

Algae can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions but extreme conditions may lead to the generation of highly dangerous reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may cause the deterioration of cell metabolism and damage cellular components. The antioxidants produced by algae alleviate the harmful effects of ROS. While the enhancement of antioxidant production in blue green algae under stress ha...

Reed canary grass as a feedstock for 2nd generation bioethanol production.

The enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation of reed canary grass, harvested in the spring or autumn, and barley straw were studied. Steam pretreated materials were efficiently hydrolysed by commercial enzymes with a dosage of 10-20FPU/g d.m. Reed canary grass harvested in the spring was hydrolysed more efficiently than the autumn-harvested reed canary grass. Additional β-glucosidase improved the ...

Protein production by Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis in solid state cultivation using sugarcane bagasse as support

The genus Arthrospira comprises a group of filamentous multicellular cyanobacteria and can be used for animal feed and human food. Solid state fermentation or cultivation (SSF) involves the use of a culture medium composed of solid material with given moisture content. No studies have been published about the cultivation of microalgae or cyanobacteria on solid medium. Furthermore, although suga...
